So Much News to Share!

Inevitably a trip to the school generates more news than I can share in one newsletter.  So I hope you’re not overwhelmed by receiving 2 in close succession!

Local Mother’s Group

We were delighted to have the opportunity to meet the local mother’s group from Thinggar Village near the school.  Life is especially tough for women in this region (hence our focus on giving the girls an opportunity for education, they wouldn’t otherwise have!)  and to be able to offer a modest contribution to support them in decorating a small meeting place felt like the right thing to do.  We know that when the women of a village come together to meet and support each other then the whole village benefits and the school is happy to bring benefit to the communities in the region.

Sponsor’s Letters

Such an important event for the girls, and one they anticipate with great excitement, is receiving letters from their sponsors.

Being connected to, and receiving photos of, their sponsors is so important for their sense of belonging and they always express great delight and gratitude.  So a big thank you to all sponsors who engage and share something of your worlds with the children.

The letters and photos are passed around and so knowing a bit about your family too helps with their sense of belonging and with the sharing comes education too!

Thank-you all!

Loving the Toy Donations

Every visit we take warm clothing for the children – we seemingly can never have enough, which is understandable with 58 girls who often take their “bobble hats” and gloves etc home for the holidays and “forget” to bring them back!

Grateful thanks to you all for the warm jackets and knitted warm clothing.  We can never have enough undies and layers of clothing and we’re careful to ensure we provide for all the girls across the wide age range.  It’s a challenge!
Thank you to everyone who continues to donate.

And of course like children everywhere – the toys are very well received.  Skipping ropes and knitted toys made the long journey – 2 international flights, one domestic flight, 4 days by “road” (Well, I use the term loosely!  It’s a road of sorts!)  and were a source of great excitement too.

Edna’s generous donation of 2 laptops was gratefully received by dear Khenpo-la

Science and Computer Learning Facilities

As we mentioned in a previous newsletter, we really need to upgrade teaching facilities to facilitate Years 11 and 12 students.  A new science lab and computer room is being build in Pokhara and we’re 62% towards raising our target of £3,500 – a modest amount by western standards and yet will be a great beginning to enable teaching these critical science based curricula.

Thank you if you can help us to buy 6 more computers and to equip the lab – here’s a link to the Fundraiser campaign. Or scan the QR code

Go Girls…. Go!!!!

Before lessons began again in the new classrooms there’s time for inter-house rivalry.  Congratulations to Wangon House in winning the inter-house girls football match🏆. 💐🎊

Playing football where there is less oxygen in the air at over 4,000 meters altitude would be a challenge for most of us!  Still, physical activity is encouraged to help the girls adapt and acclimatise and as they’re born into the environment they still can have great fun!

Pitch Conditions are Tough!

Back to the Classroom…..

And of course time comes again to begin lessons once again! Students enjoyed an art workshop  held before the usual term time classes.  We have some budding artists and photographers in our girls…..

No Teachers, No School

And without good teachers we have no school either!  If you can possibly enter our monthly lottery to win £100 then please let me know by clicking the link below. The proceeds will be used to fund salaries for 2 new teachers for the winter term and beyond.

Tickets cost around the same as  a cup of coffee at £3 per month. With subscribers limited to 200, chances of winning are better than most lotteries!

Thank you all for your kind support and interest in our school.  We couldn’t have done this and can’t continue to support the girls without your support.
