Please Help Us Support Our Teachers

No news for a while whilst the girls were at school in Mustang and now 2 newsletters come along in close proximity!  As I mentioned in the recent blog, we are now ready to launch our latest fundraiser to help raise funds for our teachers’ salaries for next year. Due to an amazing effort by our visionary Khenpo-la and all our Namgon family, Pal Ewam Namgyal Monastic School was awarded a licence to deliver Year 8 education this year.  This is an amazing achievement given that here are no other schools that have demonstrated the required standard to attain year 8 education licences in...

A Busy Summer and now Time for Warm Clothes

It’s been a busy time during the summer school term in Upper Mustang with 2 big community-wide events and a lot of construction activity. It’s been a while since the last newsletter and we have so much to share! In July the school was greatly honoured by a visit of  HH the 42nd Sakya Trinzin, who stayed in school and  gave teachings to over 6,000 people from Mustang and neighbouring regions.  Attendees could also receive a free medical check up at the social project medical camp provided for the community at the event. These community teachings are a great benefit for people in...

Summer News from School in Mustang – June 2018

Improved telecommunications now mean that we can receive more regular news of school activities whilst the girls are at summer school in Upper Mustang.  For the first time there’s some occasional internet signal available due to improved phone signals. Our 3 new girls have settled in well – they come from Dhading, very poor district of Nepal and walked 5 or 6 days to get to winter school in Pokhara for admission before coming to Mustang.  Thank you so much to our new sponsors for their kindness in supporting our newest and very welcome additions to the Namgon family. Lessons and...

Summer Term Begins And The Snow Came Too!

Our lovely staff and students all safely arrived back in Upper Mustang to begin the start of the summer term. This winter has been exceptionally cold and even as late as early May the snow has fallen.  Like children everywhere, of course our girls also like to play in the snow. But however picturesque and fun it is to play in the snow, daily activities like brushing teeth and lessons in class are  harsh in the cold wintry weather. And everyone, students and teachers alike, feel the chill for sure during lesson time.  Wrapping up warm is essential as there’s no heating in school. The...

Winter Passes & Summer Term Soon Begins

So, school another term ends and the return from winter school in Pokhara to Upper Mustang began at the end of march when the  girls who have families to go to and those that have families relatively accessible, returned home to Upper Mustang for a month long holiday with their families. The girls who wanted to stay in school – either to take extra Buddhist studies or whose families are too remote (or maybe are away with their animal herds), or simply those who don’t have families to return to, stayed in Pokhara with some staff.  They joined the monks for teachings and Buddhist activities....

End of Winter Term Fast Approaching

Winter term end is fast approaching and soon students, staff and support staff will make the challenging journey home again to Upper Mustang. For those of them that can get home or have families to meet they will be happy to join their families for a month before summer term begins in April. Exams are over and before term can end, teachers face the year and workload of marking papers and preparing student reports. The younger girls have been enjoying their free time preparing drawings for their sponsors which will be mailed together with their end of term school reports.  It’s so...
