2018 National and School Exams

Donate

It hardly seems anytime at all since term began and already exams are here again!

This week has witnessed a very important milestone – Year 8 Basic Level Examination of Pal Ewan Namgyal Monastic School under the supervision of  Lomanthamg Rural Municipality.

This is such an amazing achievement and result of so much vision and hard work by all the Namgon family as the school is the first monastic school in Upper Mustang reach the standard of applying this government recognised exam.

We have heartfelt gratitude for the vision and tireless efforts of our dear Ven. Khenpo Tsewang Rinzin and his all his team for making this happen.

We’re all so proud to have 2 of our dear girls taking this exam – they are an inspiration to all our students and are setting the standard to reach.

It’s so heartwarming to think that 6 years ago when the school began with just 15 students and 4 teachers, these 2 girls were amongst our first intake of students and had never been to school before.   They were pioneers then and they still are – now after 6 years hard work and dedicated support and encouragement from their teachers they have sat their year 8 exams alongside 5 of the boys from the monastic school.

And of course the students in other classes also sat their exams too.

We know that none of this could happen without the dedication and encouragement from our wonderful teachers always on hand to help and support our girls in their school and daily lives.

We’re blown away by the generosity of our dear supporters for helping with our current fundraiser and have reached the 80% milestone towards reaching our target to top up the 2019 budget for teachers’ salaries at our school.  We’re very aware that without teachers there would be no school!  And we owe a debt of gratitude to them and teachers everywhere.

Please can you help by making a donation to help us reach the target by year end?  No amount is too small – can you spare even the cost of a cup of coffee to help us provide a decent salary to our teachers?

We hope that you enjoy this video made with images from our school trips this year.  Upper Mustang and neighbouring Dolpo are stunningly beautiful Himalayan regions and at the same time are harsh and challenging environments for many of our girls whose homelands are here.  You can perhaps have some idea of how far our girls and teachers have to travel to get to school and how special it is to provide an education for girls in this area where they would have no other access to an education.

Note that the commentary is in Italian because we haven’t the funds to make an English version at the moment – instead we are focusing on teachers salaries as a priority for now.  Please help us if you can – here’s that link again.
